Directed by George A. Romero, Night of the Living Dead (1968) follows seven strangers trapped in a rural Pennsylvania farmhouse as an unexplained plague reanimates the recently deceased into flesh-eating ghouls. The survivors must battle the undead outside and rising panic among themselves.

Ben (Duane Jones) takes charge to board up the house, clashing with the stubborn, self-serving Harry Cooper, who demands the group hide in the cellar. As the terrifying night progresses, the farmhouse is gradually overrun. The tense drama concludes with a bleak and tragic twist when Ben survives the night, only to be fatally shot by a vigilante posse that mistakes him for a ghoul.
