Other Mommy is a supernatural psychological horror film directed by Rob Savage. Based on Josh Malerman's 2024 novel Incidents Around the House, the movie stars Jessica Chastain in a dual role as both a real-world mother named Ursula and a sinister, body-twisting entity. Set against the backdrop of a household experiencing marital strain, the story centers on an eight-year-old girl named Bela, played by Arabella Olivia Clark. Bela forms a disturbing and unsettling bond with a paranormal doppelgänger that emerges from her closet.
This entity, which the young girl innocently names "Other Mommy," bears an uncanny and terrifying resemblance to Bela's actual mother. Although the supernatural presence is initially confined to Bela's room, it soon breaks its boundaries and begins moving through the house with inhuman, spider-like movements. As the entity's intentions shift from bizarre domestic mimicry to aggressive torment, Ursula and her husband (played by Jay Duplass) must fight to protect their daughter. The film explores themes of family breakdown and psychological terror as the line between the real mother and the malevolent imposter blurs.
