It’s a battle of the books where our champions each have five minutes to convince you that their favourite recent Canadian book should be your next read.

Suzanne (Sue) Bowness

Freelance writer/editor Suzanne (Sue) Bowness recently published her first non-fiction book The Feisty Freelancer: A Friendly Guide to Visioning, Planning, and Growing Your Writing Business (Dundurn Press, 2025). She previously published a collection of poetry The Days You've Spent (Tightrope Books, 2010). She lives just outside Campbellford and is a board member of the Aron Theatre Co-op.


 


Christopher Cameron

Christopher Cameron is a retired professional opera singer who enjoyed 33 years with the Canadian Opera Company. He published his first book, a memoir called Dr. Bartolo’s Umbrella and Other Tales from my Surprising Operatic Life in 2017 with Seraphim Editions and his second, Thorneside Stories: A Mix of Sun and Cloud with Iguana Books in 2022. He is also a playwright and writes and performs with WestBen. Christopher lives in Campbellford.


Graeme Peters

Hailing from New Brunswick, Graeme Peters is a librarian, avid reader, and recent recipient of an Audience Award at the Small Town Shorts Film Festival. He is Chief Librarian and CEO of the Trent Hills Public Library. He lives in Stirling.

 

 

 


Vanessa Westermann

An avid reader of mysteries, Vanessa Westermann is a crime writer and a former Arthur Ellis Awards judge. She holds an M.A. in English Literature and a Bachelor of Education, and has taught creative writing. Cover Art, first of the Charley Scott Mysteries, was published to great acclaim in 2022. At the heart of all of Westermann’s stories are strong female protagonists inspired by the heroines in her own life.
